Lobbyist doesn't expect "much" in session

Legislators gather in Olympia Jan. 8

DAVENPORT — A lobbyist that frequently reports to the Lincoln County Commissioners doesn’t expect the 2024 legislative session to “be anything to write home about,” he told the Commissioners at a regular meeting Monday, Nov. 20.

Lobbyist Zak Kennedy checked in to discuss the upcoming legislative work session. Because it’s an election year that will include what’s expected to be a dynamic gubernatorial race, Kennedy said he doesn’t expect the legislature to propose controversial bills on either side of the aisle.

“Nobody wants to rock the boat in a big election year,” Kennedy said.

Kennedy said he’s heard rumors that some legislatures are pushing for a fully virtual session but doesn’t expect that to materialize.

“I don’t think they’re going to do much,” Kennedy said. “We don’t expect this to be anything to write home about, that’s for sure.”

Kennedy asked the commissioners if there was anything specific to Lincoln County requested for the session, to which commissioners Scott Hutsell and Rob Coffman responded in the negative.

The legislative session begins Monday, Jan. 8 on Capitol Hill in Olympia.
