Davenport fourth at Gorilla Invite

DAVENPORT - In their lone home tournament aside from the A.S.B. Rumble on the calendar for this school year, the Gorilla boys grapplers took fourth place out of 10 schools participating in the Gorilla Invitational here Saturday, Dec. 16.

Davenport scored 97 team points, behind Northwest Christian's 137, Kittitas's 127 and Lind-Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucna/Harrington's 110.5 points.

Individual results for the Davenport boys were as follows:

In the 165-pound class, Brody Schillinger pinned Carson Reedy of Asotin in 2:39 and Ricky Hood of Kettle Falls in 1:57 before defeating Nathan Rasmussen of Selkirk by decision 8-6 to take first place.

At 190 pounds, Brock Gustaveson pinned Ethan Reid of NWC in 1:45 and Dylan Valadez of Mary Walker in 0:44, then beat Curtis Winona of Pomeroy by decision 7-5 for a first-place finish.

Wrestling at 113 pounds, Landyn Murphy was pinned by LRS's Octavio Paredes Martinez in 1:54 and NWC's David Phillips in 4:07 to finish in fifth place.

At 120 pounds, Wayland Holmberg pinned Wyatt Gibler of LRS in 0:41 before falling to Spencer Duty of Selkirk by major decision 11-3. Holmberg then pinned Titan Jennings of Mary Walker in 4:45 and Nakoa Rocha of NWC by decision 4-2 to take third place.

Also at 120 pounds, Noah Everett was pinned by Duty in 3:16 and Gibler in 3:37.

In the 132-pound class, Brendon Peters-Biggs defeated Noah Stegman of NWC by decision 13-8 before falling to Sam Drake of Kettle Falls by major decision 17-5 and Seth Finley of Mary Walker by pin in 1:29. Peters-Biggs then pinned Stegman in 1:54 to take fifth place.

Also at 132 pounds, Damon Dolhay was pinned by Jaxson Chantry of Selkirk in 2:40 and Finley in 1:29.

At 150 pounds, Gabriel Carey pinned H.K. Bird of Reardan in 1:21 before falling to Jameson Davis of Selkirk by pin in 3:47. Carey then pinned Noah Saltz of Asotin in 1:50 before getting pinned by Pete Spain of LRS in 2:17 to take fourth place.

In the 175-pound class, Solomon Holmberg was pinned by Peyton Cannon of Pomeroy in 3:32 and fell to Colt Kelley of Asotin by decision 7-3.

The Davenport girls' wrestlers were at a league meet at Rogers High School Tuesday, Dec. 19. Look for those results in next week's paper.

And both the boys and the girls return to the mat at the Royal Tournament Friday, Dec. 29.
