Harrington council adopts 2024 budget

Budget balances with little to spare

HARRINGTON — City council adopted a final budget for the 2024 fiscal year at a meeting Friday, Dec. 29.

Some funds have more expected expenditures than revenues, but the final budget balances with about $15,800 to spare. Projected revenues are $1,035,705.65 and projected expenditures are $1,019,828.17.

The ratified budget came in the final meeting for now-former Mayor Jesse Silhan, who retired from the position. Joe Armand took office Jan. 1.

The city’s 15 funds are projected to have the following revenues and expenditures in 2024:

• $269,957.86 in revenues and $333,498.72 in expenditures for current expense.

• $14,500 in revenues and $0 in expenditures for developmental reserves.

• $82,188.20 in revenues and $93,609.35 in expenditures for streets.

• $36,088.84 in revenues and $28,613 in expenditures for criminal justice.

• $23,119.60 in revenues and $79,862.02 in expenditures for the cemetery.

• $17,800 in both revenues and expenditures for the library.

• $39,979.97 in revenues and $0 in expenditures for cemetery endowment.

• $1,575 in revenues and $1,235.45 in expenditures for cemetery improvement.

• $160,929.16 in revenues and $209,056.27 in expenditures for water.

• $25,000 in revenues and $0 in expenditures for water reserves.

• $259,000 in revenues and $215,248 in expenditures for sewers.

• $10,000 in revenues and $0 in expenditures for sewer reserves.

• $41,460 in revenues and $8,905.36 in expenditures for sewer bond redemption.

• $29,107.02 in revenues and $7,000 in expenditures for capital improvements.

• $25,000 in both revenues and expenditures for garbage.
