100 years ago

• More than 100 people attended a meeting at the Lincoln County Courthouse to hear a discussion of the wheat export bounty plan for raising the price of wheat.

• An outbreak of rabies was reported amongst animals in Irby.

• Gas prices were raised two cents per gallon, making the retail price 23 cents a gallon.

75 years ago

• Sub-zero temperatures dipped to 19 below, forcing the Lincoln Lumber company to shutdown after seven inches of ice formed on the mill pond.

• James Forney, a Davenport farmer and pioneer, died at 79 of coronary thrombosis.

• August Reinbold was elected vice president of the Washington Association of Soil Conservation district supervisors.

50 years ago

Davenport High School principal G.W. Bannon began to plan for his retirement. Bannon had been accused by at least one parent of “playing God.”

• A hay truck crashed into the carport at the Splash ‘n’ Dash in Davenport, causing $400 in damage.

• The Harrington Lions Club scheduled its annual pancake feed, with proceeds going to the March of Dimes, Heart Fund and Cancer Society.

25 years ago

• Mark Swain and Josh Cate of Davenport achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

• The Reardan-Edwall School District received a $900 “Good Ideas for Teachers” grant from Avista under the direction of Bryce Wilson, Andrew Schultz and K Baumgartner.

• Harrington-based Western Farm Service manager Les Wilcox announced his retirement.

10 years ago

• Several burglary and theft suspects were arrested through a cooperative effort involving deputies from Lincoln, Spokane, Adams and Grant Counties.

• The Livestock Processors Cooperative Association earned final approval from the USDA for a plant in Odessa.

• Scott and Gera Clemenson were honored as Sprague’s Citizens of the Year.
