County ball clubs start seasons

REARDAN - By now, baseball and softball teams in Davenport, Odessa and Reardan have gotten the 2024 season well under way. And in the last week, teams either picked up their first wins of the season or continued winning streaks.

The Reardan baseball team tallied its first win of the season with a 16-5 win over Liberty in the second game of a doubleheader that was preceded by a 6-1 loss to the Lancers Saturday, March 23.

And the Screaming Eagles were shut out by traditional 2B powerhouse Chewelah 11-0 and 8-0 in a doubleheader Tuesday, March 26. Reardan is 1-3 to start the season and hosts Lind-Ritzville/Sprague at noon Saturday, March 30.

Reardan softball got its first two wins of the season over the visiting Cougars Tuesday after three losses to start the season. The Screaming Eagles were shut out 12-0 in two straight games at Liberty last Saturday, then thumped the Cougars 23-6 and 25-8 to draw an even 2-2 record to start this season.

The Davenport baseball team, a year removed from being forced to play a junior varsity schedule, is 3-1 to start this season.

The Gorillas defeated Asotin's junior varsity team 7-1, then lost to the Panthers 5-4 in extra innings in a game where the home team suited up eight varsity players Saturday, March 23.

Davenport's doubleheader at Northwest Christian was rained out in the third inning of the first game Tuesday, March 26.

The Gorilla softball team is still searching for its first game of the season after four games. Davenport fell to Asotin 12-2 and 19-4 last Saturday before a doubleheader with NWC was rained out Tuesday.

Both Davenport ball clubs host Liberty's varsity team at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 30.

The Odessa baseball team was also victorious for the first time this season last weekend. The Tigers bested Cusick in a shootout 24-21, then routed the Panthers 35-11 March 23.

Odessa visits Springdale at noon Saturday, March 30.
