School Board carries 10 motions

ODESSA — The local School Board carried three motions in a regular meeting that concluded in less than an hour Wednesday, March 27.

The meeting was preceded by a workshop that included discussions regarding literacy and the need for a Title I coordinator.

The school board approved the following hires during the regular meeting: Kelsey Scrupps and Alex Stanford as junior high track co-coaches and Jeff Wehr as chess club advisor.

Also approved were next school year’s contracts for the school psychologist and speech therapy.

The board then approved policies and procedures regarding opioid related overdoses, video cameras on school buses and video surveillance.

The meeting concluded with approvals of a pitching machine and golf bag donation from the Booster Club and an interfund loan for school bus purchases.

Superintendent Steve Fisk told the Board that the facility committee constructed a list of summer projects funded with capital levy dollars, which will be officially decided upon at a May meeting.

Fisk also said he applied for a grant to replace the football field lights, while the technology committee will approve a final bid for security cameras and point of entry technology, which will be installed this summer.

Operations supervisor Justin Parr said he’s researching the grant process for electric buses. Gov. Jay Inslee recently signed a bill that aims to transition Washington public schools to electric school buses.

The School Board’s next regular meeting is at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 24. It will be preceded by a 5:15 p.m. workshop session.
