Reardan baseball sweeps Davenport

REARDAN - The Screaming Eagles rode the strong pitching of Tate Nelson, Jacob Bodeau and Tyson Finch to earn a doubleheader sweep of rival Davenport 2-1 and 4-2 Friday, April 19.

In the first game, Nelson and Bodeau dueled Davenport's Beau Copenhaver in a matchup of strong pitching and little offense.

Reardan got a run in the bottom of the first inning when Nelson scored on a wild pitch after a leadoff triple to take a 1-0 lead.

Nelson pitched the first two innings, then Bodeau took over as the two combined for three shutout innings to start the game.

Cooper Danekas scored on a wild pitch to tie the game 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning, while in the Reardan half innings, Copenhaver settled into a groove.

Reardan's offense finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth when Hunter Flaa scored Nelson with a 2-out triple to give the Screaming Eagles a 2-1 lead.

Finch took the mound in the second game for Reardan and effectively nulled Davenport's offense, save for two runs scored in the top of the fifth inning manufactured by an RBI double from Brody Schillinger that scored Pablo Gutierrez and an RBI grounder from Colby Kiser to score Schillinger.

Reardan plated one run each in the first two innings off Danekas, then Pearson Board's clutch 2-RBI single in the bottom of the fifth gave the Screaming Eagles the lead back.

Finch pitched a complete game to give the Screaming Eagles the sweep.

In other baseball action this week, the Screaming Eagles were swept by Northwest Christian 13-0 and 10-0 Tuesday, April 23. Reardan is 6-10 on the season.

And Davenport swept Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 7-2 and 15-14 Tuesday to improve to 6-4 this season.
