Fort Spokane Store changes ownership

Murphy purchases store and restaurant from grandparents

MILES - The Fort Spokane Store and Restaurant is under new ownership and a new name, but the business is staying in the family.

Stephen and Stephanie Murphy purchased the business Friday, March 29 and are currently preparing for a revamp the first week of June, when a new menu and interior upgrades will be unveiled.

The name has also been simplified to "The Fort." The store/restaurant is located at the intersection of Miles-Creston Road and State Highway 25, about one mile south of the confluence of the Columbia and Spokane Rivers at Lake Roosevelt.

Ownership may be new to Stephen Murphy, but the business is not. His grandparents, Bob and the late Bert Uhler (d. 2014), were the prior owners and grantors.

Bob Uhler, whom Murphy noted "everyone knows,"had the business for sale, and the Murphys decided to keep it in the family.

"If anyone is going to own this, it might as well be my family," Murphy, who said he grew up in the restaurant, said.

Murphy, who attended Davenport High School from ages 8-17, said he's worked in the restaurant for 25 years.

He and Stephanie moved back to the Miles area three years ago to work at the store and restaurant, and he said he's excited to use his culinary talents at The Fort.
