Banko moved to mental hospital

ODESSA — A local man accused of threatening to kill another man has been transferred to Eastern State Hospital in Medical Lake to undergo competency restoration treatment and evaluation.

Arthur James Banko, 68, of Odessa, is being held at the mental hospital without bail while health officials provide competency restoration treatment.

His trial date of Nov. 6 was canceled during a hearing Tuesday, Oct. 8.

According to court records, Banko is now in the custody the state Department of Social and Health Services, which will conduct the treatment.
