Runners compete at Battle for the 509

AIRWAY HEIGHTS - Boys and girls cross country teams ran into tough competition Oct. 5, at the Battle for the 509.

Hundreds of athletes competed in the meet at the Spokane Polo Grounds.

The top Lincoln County runner was Reardan senior Gabe Branstetter, who finished 36th in the fast division with a time of 16:28.60.

Senior Tommy Furhman was the fastest Gorilla, finishing in 17:34.40 for 121st place in that division.

In girls fastest class, Davenport freshman Charlotte Soliday and junior Josie Wynecoop posted the best Lincoln County times. Soliday finished 29th in 20.02.00 and Wynecoop 46th in 20:29.90.

Reardan senior Hailey Frye finished the course in 24:02.50 for 175th in the second-fastest class.
