Grant to help tribe restore redband

KELLER — The Colville Tribe will receive $3.476 million to help restore redband trout habitat in the Lake Roosevelt and Sanpoil River areas.

The Funds are included in an $18.5 million federal grant earmarked for conservation projects in the state. The funding comes from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation America the Beautiful Challenge.

The local project will help the tribe restore redband trout and other native fish habitat using large woody debris, engineered log jams, livestock fencing and riparian restoration along the Sanpoil River, grant officials said.
