Museum lays schoolhouse foundation

Rebuild effort reaches key milestone

ODESSA - The Odessa Historical Society is moving forward with plans to rebuild the town's original schoolhouse, marking a major milestone last week as crews poured the foundation - an effort estimated to cost about $30,000.

The project, expected to total roughly $150,000, aims to recreate the one-room wooden schoolhouse built in 1899 that once stood on the site of the current grade school. The rebuild will honor the town's educational roots and preserve a key piece of its early history.
