Hunting season begins

Rain, patience, and a perfect shot

ODESSA - On the opening weekend of the 2025 general deer season, local 8-year-old Hesston Stanford, of Odessa, achieved a remarkable feat by harvesting a 4x2 mule deer with a 19-inch antler spread from 220 yards on his family's farm in Lincoln County.

The young hunter's first successful season highlights both the excitement of hunting and the importance of following Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) regulations.

For Stanford, the most thrilling moment came when he took the shot that brought down the deer.
