Bell hits 1,000-assists milestone
DAVENPORT - Dominant offense and sharp teamwork carried Davenport to a straight-set victory over Reardan, 25-18, 25-15, 25-14, in Northeast 2B League volleyball Thursday on senior night.
The match honored seven seniors, including setter Faith Bell, who was recognized for surpassing 1,000 career assists, while Naomi Rainwater powered the Gorillas with 20 kills.
"It's a special moment for all of them," coach Jill Morrison said. "They've been five-year varsity players. This is our last home game, so it's bittersweet."
With district second place secured, pressure was low.
"The pressure was kind of off," Morrison said. "It was just about having fun."
She praised her seniors and junior libero Tatum Hupp, an "honorary senior."
"All my seniors," she said. "And Tatum Hupp."
Reardan assistant coach Kenzi Johnston blamed energy and nerves.
"It was our energy and being scared," Johnston said. "It's hard to prepare girls mentally for battle mentality."
She highlighted sophomore Katelyn Vaughn and freshman Hadley Landreth.
"Katelyn handled the pressure so well," Johnston said. "Hadley is great under pressure and always has a smile. Those two brought us up."
Morrison credited fundamentals.
"Just sticking together," she said. "Basics but better. You have to do the basics better."
Johnston said Reardan will focus on attitude.
"We're going to work on body language and showing up positively," she said.
