Vogelsang claims early lead in Odessa hospital commissioner race

Credits community trust for victory

ODESSA - Preliminary results from the Tuesday, Nov. 4 General Election show Barbara A. Vogelsang leading in the race for Hospital District 1 Commissioner Position No. 4, with more ballots yet to be counted.

Vogelsang received 247 votes (63.66%), while challenger Dee Deife earned 140 votes (36.08%). One write-in vote was recorded, bringing the total to 388 ballots cast.

"I am just so grateful," Vogelsang said. "Grateful to all the people in the community that have been so supportive throughout this whole process, and I am grateful that they are trusting me to represent them in something as important as their healthcare. It is really exciting."

Deife could not be reached for comment.
