Lake Roosevelt sturgeon season nears close

LAKE ROOSEVELT — Anglers are focusing on Lake Roosevelt’s upper reaches as the 2025 white sturgeon season winds down ahead of the Nov. 30 closure.

Decades of hatchery work have turned the fishery near the Canadian border into one of Washington’s premier big-game opportunities.

This year, WDFW introduced a 55- to 63-inch harvest slot to protect smaller hatchery fish while allowing harvest.

“We want people to enjoy fishing but also keep these amazing fish in our waters,” said Staci Lehman, WDFW Region 1 communications manager.
