ODESSA - In the first-round WIAA Class 1B football playoff showdown that saw 12 lead changes and 102 total points, the Odessa Tigers outlasted the Sunnyside Christian Knights 54-48 on Nov. 7 at Finney Field, advancing to 7-3 on the season while ending Sunnyside Christian's year at 4-5.
The game opened with a Tigers touchdown at 9:05 of the first quarter, but Sunnyside Christian answered at 4:42 and added a two-point conversion by junior running back Jared Villalobos for an 8-6 lead. The Knights extended the margin to 22-12 by halftime.
