Man gets new trial date in strangulation case

ODESSA — A local man charged with strangling his fiancée appeared Tuesday in Lincoln County Superior Court for a readiness hearing as his trial date was reset.

Jacob Michael Bergstrom, 34, of Odessa, is charged with second-degree assault by strangulation and second-degree malicious mischief causing damage exceeding $750, court records show.

He pleaded not guilty at an earlier arraignment and was released on $25,000 bail, court records show.

A trial is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. May 13, with a readiness hearing April 28, according to court records.
