Airport engineering contract approved

J.U.B. Engineers retained

DAVENPORT - The City Council unanimously approved a five-year contract with J.U.B. Engineers Inc. to provide engineering services for the municipal airport.

Resolution 2026-06, approved during the council's Wednesday, March 25 meeting, authorized Mayor Brad Sweet to sign an agreement with the Spokane-based firm; he signed the resolution the same night.

The Federal Aviation Administration requires five-year engineering contracts at municipal airports.

The city's previous contract with Century West Engineering had expired.

The city had two responses to a previous request for qualifications. After interviewing both firms, staff recommended J.U.B. because of its recent experience with similar airport analysis, design and construction projects.

"We really appreciated the opportunity to put forward our proposal, showcasing our experience and the team that could serve airport engineering here," J.U.B. project manager Spencer Stephens said. "We'd be really, really excited to work with all of you on all the airport needs going forward."

Stephens noted the agreement establishes a framework for future work under FAA grant requirements. Individual projects would then be handled through smaller task orders without repeating the full federal contract language.

The agreement takes effect immediately but does not commit the city to any specific projects or costs at this time.
