Local FBLA students compete at state

ODESSA - Davenport and Odessa students won multiple awards at the Washington FBLA State Business Leadership Conference on April 21-24.

Davenport sent 32 students and recorded 14 Top 10 finishes, with five teams or individuals qualifying for the national leadership conference in San Antonio, Texas, from June 29 to July 3.

Davenport national qualifiers are:

• Community Service Project, first place - Seniors Faith Bell and McCall Knopp, and sophomore Everett Prewitt

• Business Ethics, second place - Senior Josie Wynecoop and junior Joel Odenrider.

• Data Analysis, third place - Senior Malachi Hoff

• Introduction to Social Media Strategies, fourth place - Sophomores Fiona Strozyk and Paige Van Buren, and freshman Ruby Miranda.

• Job Interview, fourth place - Senior Beau Copenhaver.

Other Top 10 finishers included seniors Clare Lathrop (Career Portfolio, seventh), McCall Knopp and McGuire Knopp with sophomore Bennett Wagner (Data Analysis, eighth), Faith Bell, Chloe Hammond and junior Tatum Hupp (Graphic Design, sixth), junior David Coriell (Graphic Design, seventh), sophomores Everett Prewitt, Fiona Strozyk and Paige Van Buren (Introduction to Business Presentation, 10th), Fiona Strozyk (Introduction to Public Speaking, sixth), Josie Wynecoop (Job Interview, seventh) and senior Nevaeh Farrens (Visual Design, seventh).

Chapter President Josie Wynecoop received two scholarships, and Beau Copenhaver was named the school's Outstanding FBLA Member for 2025-26.

"I couldn't be more proud of our chapter members overall," adviser Leah Silvieus said. "They really showcased their skills."

Odessa

Odessa's 21-member chapter also had a strong showing, earning the Gold Seal Chapter Award of Merit and Outstanding Local Chapter Annual Business Report.

Odessa placers included:

• Business Plan, sixth - Juniors Leah Iverson and Leah Claassen

• Financial Statement Analysis, fifth - Seniors Aiden Schmierer and Hudson Watson, and freshman Kaleb Walter.

• Social Media Strategies, fifth - Juniors Jordyn Lewis, Leah Claassen and Lexi Eden

• Local Chapter Annual Business Report, sixth - Juniors Hadyn Reynolds and Katie Williams, and sophomore Kolter Watson.

Aiden Schmierer placed 12th individually in Public Speaking, and freshmen Aubrey Iverson, Paige Martin and Crystal DeVore finished 12th in Introduction to Social Media Strategies.

"I am extremely proud of this group," adviser Eleda Najera said.

"They competed with confidence and represented Odessa well."
