Junk and fire hazards focus of meeting

DAVENPORT - Tensions flared at the May 13 City Council meeting as residents criticized leaders for failing to address longstanding fire hazards and junk accumulation on private property.

Karen Kearney described an overgrown lot behind the 700 block of Morgan Street as a safety threat. Once the site of a grocery store and small cabins, the area is now littered with dry lumber and used by skateboarders and homeless people.

She said Fire Chief Craig Sweet has sent repeated registered letters to the property owner over the past two years with no response.
