Odessa sends three golfers to state tournament

LIBERTY LAKE - Odessa junior Eli Madigan delivered one of the strongest individual performances in recent program history, finishing fifth in the 1B Boys division at the WIAA State Golf Championships held May 19-20 at Liberty Lake Golf Course.

Madigan posted an impressive two-round total of 84 to earn a spot on the podium among the state's top small-school golfers. Teammate senior Troy Hardung placed 17th with a 94, while sophomore Ella Schlomer competed in the combined 1B/2B Girls division and finished 45th with a total of 111.

The three Tigers advanced to state after strong showings at the two-round district qualifier earlier this month. The first round was played May 4 at Sage Hills Golf Course and the second round May 12 at Moses Pointe, with Madigan and Hardung both qualifying on the boys side and Schlomer earning her berth by placing sixth in the girls field.

Odessa coach Dylan Jahns was proud of how his young team represented the Tigers on the biggest stage.

"I'm extremely proud of Eli, Troy and Ella," Jahns said. "Competing at the state level is a huge accomplishment for any small-school program, and to have three athletes representing Odessa at state shows the progress we've made. Eli's fifth-place finish is outstanding, and both Troy and Ella battled hard and gained valuable experience that will benefit our program moving forward."

The strong state showing caps what has been a successful season for the Odessa golf program and highlights the continued growth and competitiveness of golf in the rural 1B community.
