Pursuit ends in crash, charges

SPRAGUE – An Oregon man is facing charges following a high-speed pursuit Monday night, June 29, after crashing his car and being arrested.

Eric M. Nelson, 46, of Medford, Ore., is facing driving under the influence, driving while license suspended and felony eluding charges.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Nelson was being pursued on eastbound Interstate 90 by police prior to the crash.

He took the state Highway 23 exit and turned southbound toward Sprague.

Accelerating onto Highway 23, Nelson’s 2021 Toyota CST went off the roadway and into a ditch, the patrol said, noting he corrected and continued on the highway.

At the Old Airport Road interchange, he attempted to turn right, but struck a guardrail, the patrol said, noting that’s where his car came to rest.

Nelson, who was wearing a seatbelt, was injured and transported to the hospital in Ritzville, the patrol said. Alcohol or drugs was a factor in the crash.

The Toyota was impounded as evidence.
