DAVENPORT - After five summers on the stand, a local lifeguard says the job has taught her more about attention and responsibility than she expected when she first started.
Rikkianna Chavelas, 19, of Davenport, returned to the city pool again this year. She said the work came easily and gives her a chance to visit with kids while keeping them safe.
She has been certified for about five years. The swimming, rescue skills and CPR came fairly easily, though she admitted the tests still make her nervous. She scored 100% on her latest recertification.
