River cliff fire checked

DAVENPORT — Boaters reported seeing fire on a cliff along the Spokane River Friday, Aug. 7.

Chelsea Taylor Schafer and Sage Alan Schafer called 911 about 4:35 p.m. from a boat and said they could see a fire near Miles Road, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office reported. Schafer said her husband, an off-duty law enforcement officer, planned to try to help extinguish it.

Responding units from Davenport Fire, Egypt Fire, Deer Meadows Fire and others checked the area and determined the smoke was coming from three stumps smoldering from an earlier fire.
