Young lifeguard values community role in Odessa

ODESSA - With limited summer job options in town, a local teenager chose the pool because she wanted a chance to help her community while gaining work experience.

Jordyn Lewis, 17, of Odessa, is spending the season as a lifeguard at the city pool. She said the training this year was demanding.

"It was pretty difficult this year," Lewis said. "We compacted everything into two days, including the brick test, which is really hard at 12 feet. We also had to do a lot of laps, which was very tiring."
