Hicks wins hot dog eating contest

ODESSA – A local high school freshman was crowned champion of the inaugural Deutschesfest Hot Dog Eating Contest on Saturday, Sept. 19.

Nevaeh Hicks of Odessa downed five hotdogs in less than 3 minutes to win the award. Jaydon Wilson of Harrington was second and Connor Evans of Harrington third.

"My name is Nevaeh Hicks, I'm 14 years old, in ninth-grade, and I just ate five hotdogs," she said after winning the event on the main stage in the heart of the Deutschesfest celebration. "Surprisingly, I don't feel sick at all."
