Younger pupils’ proficiency declines
DAVENPORT — Mathematics skills are improving among high school sophomores.
That was the report to the School Board during a Monday, Sept. 28 meeting.
Tenth-grade math scores rose 20 points over the last year and the high school’s on-time graduation rate neared 98 percent, high school Principal Jennifer Hargrave and elementary/middle school Principal Noelle Ackerman said.
According to the Smarter Balanced Assessment, 10th-grade math proficiency hit 57%; the state average is about 33-35%, they said, noting sophomore English proficiency was 83%, close to the district’s pre-COVID-shutdown average....
