On May 7, seven other Bi-County schools joined Odessa for the Fourth Annual Bi-County STEM Challenge. Terri King and Maria Schuh were surprised at a recent presentation from CenturyLink representative Kerry Zimmerman to learn they were the recipients of a CenturyLink grant in the amount of $3,944. Jack Birchard died May 3, 2014, at Cottage in the Meadows in Yakima, surrounded by family and friends. His life of 91 years provided much joy and happiness. He was born April 23, 1923, to Frank and Rose Birchard in Shawnee, Wyo. and spent his childhood in Wyoming before moving to Eugene, Ore., where he met Shirley Glasgow. They married in August of 1946. Hannah Schmidt is the lead leg on the 4 X 100 and 4 X 200 Relays The 4 X 200 relay is ranked first in the state for the girls 1B classification. She also competes in the 100m and Long Jump and will be competing in all four of her events at the District Meet this week. Odessa Historical Society members Pat Gies, Scott Heimbigner, Joe Wollman, and Paul Scheller last week completed the landscaping around St. Matthew’s Church, placing decorative rock with the help of Don Strebeck and his skid loader. This action finishes the refurbishment of the church which was repainted and received a new steel roof by Diamond Construction last year. Katie DeWulf has been a great addition to the tennis team. She is a hard worker and competitive. Cydnee Kieffer has helped to keep tennis going in the Odessa-Harrington Athletic Co-Op. Without her skill and dedication, Coach Rachel Roberts is not sure the program would still be around. Cydnee will be greatly missed next year because she is a senior. I really do not know how people go through grief without the Lord. People always say there are many stages of grief and there are. It depends on what kind of day I’m having as to which stage I’m going through. The pain only tells me the depth of love that Tom and I had for each other. The kitchen in the Odessa Community Center is now a USDA-certified commercial kitchen thanks to a year-long community effort spearheaded by Lindsy Starkel overseeing the project funded in part by the Odessa Chamber of Commerce, grant monies and individual donations.
