    On May 7, seven other Bi-County schools joined Odessa for the Fourth Annual Bi-County STEM Challenge.     Terri King and Maria Schuh were surprised at a recent presentation from CenturyLink representative Kerry Zimmerman to learn they were the recipients of a CenturyLink grant in the amount of $3,944.     Jack Birchard died May 3, 2014, at Cottage in the Meadows in Yakima, surrounded by family and friends. His life of 91 years provided much joy and happiness. He was born April 23, 1923, to Frank and Rose Birchard in Shawnee, Wyo. and spent his childhood in Wyoming before moving to Eugene, Ore., where he met Shirley Glasgow. They married in August of 1946.     Odessa Historical Society members Pat Gies, Scott Heimbigner, Joe Wollman, and Paul Scheller last week completed the landscaping around St. Matthew’s Church, placing decorative rock with the help of Don Strebeck and his skid loader. This action finishes the refurbishment of the church which was repainted and received a new steel roof by Diamond Construction last year. The kitchen in the Odessa Community Center is now a USDA-certified commercial kitchen thanks to a year-long community effort spearheaded by Lindsy Starkel overseeing the project funded in part by the Odessa Chamber of Commerce, grant monies and individual donations.
