The free turkey dinner served Saturday, December 3, was sponsored by the Wheatland Queens of Odessa (Chapter of Red Hat ladies) and the Primetimers of Odessa. This dinner was a full turkey dinner with all the traditional sides, plus a large array of desserts. The 10th Annual Ryan Floch Memorial games were held at Big Bend Community College in Moses Lake December 13. The Odessa-Harrington Titans took on the St. John-Endicott Eagles, as the boys and girls varsity teams fought it out in a non-league contest. Odessa’s town council voted to approve a budget of $1,579,553 at their December 12 meeting. Council members have been working on the budget for approximately three months. Mayor Doug Plinski distributed a letter from Okanogan County, providers of Odessa’s senior meals program. The Odessa-Harrington Titan football team and volleyball team coaches and players recognized several individual team members for special awards. The teams as a whole were also recognized by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association for their academic achievements. Based on the numbers, Christmas Fest 2011 was even more successful than last year’s event. A total of 275 people signed in at the door to be eligible for the 32 available door prizes (see box for winners’ names). Names of winners were drawn throughout the day. The Odessa-Harrington Titans girls basketball team opened the season with games against the Davenport Gorillas and Lind/Ritzville-Sprague Broncos. Despite losing both games to the larger schools, there were a lot of positive signs that the team is on the right track. Karla Ann Novotney died December 3, 2011 in Spokane. She was born August 13, 1939 to Donivan and Mary Alice Warwick in Harrington. She grew up in Harrington and attended school, graduating from Harrington High School in 1957. She attended Kinman Business School in Spokane for a short time before returning to Harrington. The Odessa Drive In was forced to shut down December 1 and 2 due to a break in the water main leading to the restaurant. Owner Maxine Ferderer said that "first we had water, then we had dirty water, and then we had no water," when asked about the event. A weekly review of incident reports on file at the Odessa Town Marshal’s office has raised a potential safety concern for residents. An individual has reported aggressive behavior demonstrated by a dog at large, apparently a pit bull or pit bull mix.
