Don Frick, currently a resident of Ephrata, turned 86 years old this Spring. During this year's harvest, he drove his John Deere 7720 combine for the 75th time. His first harvest was in 1941 when he was 12 years old and his job was to hang the sacks on a Harris pull combine. Big Bend Community College students will benefit from a reduction in tuition costs when they pay for fall classes in 2015. The wheat harvest in the Odessa area is about 90 percent complete, and as most people suspected when harvest began, the outcome has been rather dismal. Overall dryland yields were down by about 40 to 50 percent overall, according to Mark Cronrath at the Odessa Trading Company, even lower than the initial reports at the beginning of harvest.
