Grant County will be starting culvert replacement on Road T NE on May 29, 2012. The scheduled completion date is June 14, 2012. During construction, County Road T NE will be closed to all traffic between County Road 6 NE and 7 NE. Spring Fling wrapped up with the seventh annual Friends of the Pool Walk-a-thon held Sunday, April, 29, raising over $4,500 for the organization’s projects. The Odessa Town Council met Monday night to deal with routine matters affecting the community. Fire Department Town fire chief Don Strebeck told the Council that, after expenses, the consignment equipment auction held during Spring Fling made about $8,500 for his department. The auction drew 83 bidders present, vying for 100 lots of varying types of equipment. The Washington State Patrol's recent round of cadet testing caught many people unprepared to take the required cadet fitness and written tests. To address these concerns, WSP will conduct additional cadet testing at locations in Eastern and Western Washington. The biggest stumbling block for people continues to be the fitness test. Last month, Secretary of Health Mary C. Selecky declared a whooping cough (pertussis) epidemic in Washington and 1,132 cases have been confirmed throughout the state. The epidemic has not yet reached Lincoln County, but surrounding counties have reported a total of 10 confirmed cases. Half of those were reported in Spokane county. The Chamber of Commerce was informed that Andrew Holman has agreed to be the music chairman for the 2012 Deutschesfest, replacing April Strebeck who has done the job for several years. At the April 25 meeting of the Odessa School Board, the Parent Pre-school Co-operative’s president Stephen Walter expressed his thanks and relief at the board’s decision to incorporate the preschool into the Odessa School District. A youth shooting program is being proposed by local members of the American Legion. A town meeting will be held May 12, a Saturday, at 6 p.m. at Heritage Church.
