Kramer and 2001-2002 CCS golf team sent to Hall of Fame

Odessa native Scott Kramer, son of Myron and Marlene Kramer, has been inducted into the Community Colleges of Spokane (CCS) Hall of Fame as a member of the CCS 2001-2002 Men’s Golf Team.

The award was presented at the CCS Hall of Fame Banquet Saturday, June 4.

Coached by Paul Tikker, the team won the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) Eastern Region and the NWAACC Tournament, in addition to league tournaments at Green River, Treasure Valley and Spokane. The NWAACC team roster included team captain Kramer, Jason Cox, Joe Finley, Michael Hanson, Marty Nauert, Souta Nozaka, Adam Syverson, Jared Taylor and Kyle Trenholm.

Although CCS recruited Kramer out of high school, he initially chose Eastern Washington University to begin his college education, hoping to try out for the golf team. Unfortunately, Eastern was in the process of dropping their golf program. Kramer then transferred to Spokane Falls Community College and tried out for the CCS team. After his successful first year, Kramer was given athletic scholarships for his second year at SFCC.

Kramer said that he was out on the Odessa golf course with his father by the time he was 2 or 3, and that he was on the course “all summer every year of my life with my dad and the other regulars.”

Kramer played golf for Odessa High School all four years, coached by his father and qualifying for the state tournament each year. He graduated in 1999.

When asked what it was like to have his father as his coach, Kramer replied, “It was the best experience in the world for me.” He went on to say that he felt fortunate to have had the opportunities he had growing up in Odessa and attending school here. He added that his respect for his father plus other teachers here at that time “inspired me to want to do what they did,” meaning being good role models and making a difference in the lives of young people.

Following Coach Tikker’s retirement in 2008, Kramer has assumed the CCS head men’s golf coaching position. He and his wife, Dani, live in Coeur d’Alene.
