100 years ago

A.R. Thorp of Edwall was found guilty of first-degree forgery after he forged Henry Guhlke’s name to a note and attempted to collect through the courts.

Assessor Irving Borck named A.P. Conrad of Davenport and W.H. Shearer of Sprague as those who would assess all towns in Lincoln County for the year. All property was expected to be revalued.

A special meeting of City Council was held in Davenport to discuss whether Morgan Street should be paved and whether the city had acted illegally in not making a provision in the budget for the voted-upon bond for the paving.

75 years ago

A program to allow youths to fish in Cottonwood Creek in Davenport was begun.

Reburial rites were held at Mountain View Cemetery for Clyde Knowles, who was killed in action in the southwest Pacific during World War II Jan. 8, 1943.

Ted Simmons, a transient laborer, was arrested after he allegedly stole a clock from local merchant C.E. McElwain. He pleaded guilty, claiming he was intoxicated when he took the clock.

50 years ago

The National Bank of Commerce purchased the City of Davenport’s $205,000 worth of general obligation bonds.

A county mental health report found that young men aged 18-21 were the highest offenders of alcohol laws.

The Harrington School District asked voters to pass a levy to collect $125,000 for district funds.

25 years ago

Robert Mielke of Davenport and Keith Nelson of Creston were selected to serve on a judging committee at the 1999 Cowmen’s Classic All Breed Bull Sale.

Karl and Lexie Kupers of Harrington were recognized with the establishment of a Leadership Fellowship and Speaker Sponsorship by the Washington Agriculture and Forestry Education Foundation.

Miss Reardan-Edwall candidates Julia Seyler, Allison Mason, Mary Hammer and Lisa Simonian bowed three games apiece to raise money for the community float.

The Christian Heritage girls basketball team went undefeated to win the Mountain Christian League tournament for the third straight year.

Grace Moeller retired after 29 years teaching in Harrington.

Nick James, Erik Sacket and Austin Stauffer of Davenport and Heiko Birkle, Colton Kuykendall, Ruger Lillengreen, Michael Sims, Josey Anderson and Justis Anderson of Reardan qualified for the Mat Classic at Regional wrestling in Kittitas.
