Heat wave added to dreary crop prospects in 1930

A heat wave just before the beginning of harvest 81 years ago added to wheat growers’ woes.

They were already expecting to harvest the shortest crop in history– if indeed they even harvested at all.

The Record carried this account in its issue of July 18, 1930:

The first real heat wave of the season caused Odessaites to swelter as the government thermometer registered an even 100 degrees as The Record went to press.
