FDR visited Grand Coulee Dam site 77 years ago
It was 77 years ago this week, August 10, 1934, when The Odessa Record reported President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s visit to the Grand Coulee Dam site.
A new highway had been built from Soap lake up past the Sun lakes to Coulee City and on to the dam site especially for the president’s motorcade The president’s motorcade. The presidential party had arrived at Soap Lake station via the Great Northern Railway, and accompanying the president were his long-time friends from Washington State Senator Clarance C. Dill, of Spokane and Washington Governor Clarence D. Martin, of Cheney.
