Letter to the Editor: Unfunded liabilities a concern to reader

I am sure that many of you receive questionnaires like I do. They want to know what you think the largest problems are that our federal government faces. We should be very concerned about our unfunded liabilities! We have Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and the Postal Retirement System, that are in deep trouble, as baby boomers reach retirement age. We have hundreds of thousands of veterans who will need medical care, after too many deployments to our 21st century wars. We have millions of children who have been born to drug addicted parents!

Our schools are already facing the problems of these unfortunate young people. Our government's "Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation" is also in trouble. Corporations are supposed to make payments into this corporation to safeguard employees' retirement benefits. American Airlines recently paid $6.5 million when they were supposed to deposit $100 million. The underpayment was called "A Disturbing Development!" No mention was made of any penalty. That is typical of our federal government as they won't even police their own employees!
