Tigers, Gorillas still alive in postseason
ODESSA - The spring sports postseason has arrived, and that means District Tournament action for local baseball and softball teams.
Two area teams are still in the mix: Odessa baseball and Davenport softball.
The Tigers have consistently sported the best team in the county this season and finished third in the District 7 following 26-1 and 20-5 wins at Selkirk Thursday, May 2.
Odessa now heads to the District 7/9 1B Tournament in Ritzville Saturday, May 11.
The Tigers take on DeSales at 1 p.m. in a loser-out quarterfinal. The winner advances to play either Sunnyside Christian, Pomeroy or Wellpinit at 4 p.m. Saturday, with the victor of that game advancing to state.
The Irish will be a tough out. DeSales went 17-4 in the regular season, only dropping games to 1A Elma, 2B Asotin and top-ranked league rival Liberty Christian.
Reardan baseball qualified for the District 7 2B Tournament as the No. 6 seed, but was eliminated after an 8-0 quarterfinal loss to No. 3 Asotin Thursday, May 2.
The Screaming Eagles started District play by eliminating No. 7 Liberty with a convincing 12-1 victory but couldn't get past one of the District's "Big 4" schools in the host Panthers to keep their season alive.
Davenport softball enters the District 7 2B Tournament as the No. 7 seed after dropping a doubleheader to Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 11-0 and 14-0 in the regular season finale Friday, May 3.
The Gorillas take on No. 2 Northwest Christian in the opening round of the double-elimination tournament at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 14 at the Merkel Sports Complex in Spokane.
And Reardan's softball team was eliminated from postseason play after falling to Chewelah 18-14 in a play-in game at Lakeside High School Tuesday, May 7. The Screaming Eagles finished their season 4-15 overall.
