Titans second seed at state volleyball tourney

The O-H Titans volleyball team members looked confident and on their game last Thursday, November 1, when district tournament play opened in Odessa for four of the first-round teams: Odessa-Harrington, Republic, Almira-Coulee/Hartline and Northport.

O-H defeated Republic, taking the match in three straight games: 25-14, 25-22 and 25-9.

Chelsea Fisher led the Titans with 15 kills, while Koralynne Kuch provided 23 assists. Kendall Todd was responsible for eight ace serves. On defense, Cydnee Kieffer and Jenna Shafer each had four digs for the Titans. Fisher and Todd each had three blocks.

In the final game of the evening, the Titans provided a repeat of their earlier game, defeating Northport in three straight: 25-11, 25-14 and 25-13.

Fisher again led the Titans with 12 kills, and Kuch had 26 assists. Kuch led in ace serves with eight. Kieffer was hot on defense in this game with 26 digs to her credit. Fisher led with three blocks.

The NE District B-1 Championship finals were held at Northwest Christian School in Colbert on Saturday, November 3. Teams from the southern B-1 league took all three slots to the state tournament coming up this weekend in Yakima’s Sun Dome.

O-H faced off against Wilbur-Creston for the fourth time this year, having won two of the preceding three matches. This time, however, W-C was not to be denied and they defeated Odessa-Harrington for the district championship in a hard-fought match that went all the way to five games. The scores (O-H scores are first) were: 25-23, 25-16, 21-25, 18-25, 15-10, making W-C the first seed at state and O-H the second seed.

ACH placed third in the tournament and will also go to state.

Todd led the Titans in ace serves with four. Kuch had whopping 44 assists, and Fisher dominated with 21 kills. Defensively, Lexie Hirst and Hannah Schmidt each had 11 digs to pace the Titans, and Fisher put up 11 blocks.
