Letter to the Editor; Writer angry about losing insurance plan

To the Editor:

I’m tired of being called ignorant and foolish by idiots spouting Democratic talking points.

I had good insurance. I could afford it. Benefits were better, premiums lower. It’s canceled because HHS rewrote the rules making it nearly impossible for good, affordable plans to stay grandfathered. That’s not capitalism, as Democrats like to claim, that’s over-regulation.

It was not “lousy insurance,” and I’m angry at being told I’m too stupid to know what I was buying. This is no longer about partisanship, this is about being treated condescendingly and lied to. Last year when the Supreme Court ruled the ACA penalty was really a new tax, I thought, “Oh well, at least I can stay on the same plan for a few years while this sorts itself out.” Hah! The only thing that makes me feel foolish is that I believed that lie.

Those who think this is going to work without MAJOR reform of the reform are fooling themselves. What we have is a Medicaid expansion, sloppily executed, hurting more people than it helps, no sustainable way to pay for it and nothing to keep costs down. It will fail. And the Democratic Party gets to own it.
