Davenport and Reardan softball split doubleheader

Offenses twice light up diamond

REARDAN - Both the Gorilla and Screaming Eagle offenses were not lacking for run production in a high-scoring doubleheader that netted each team a win last week. Davenport won the first game 18-16, then Reardan took the second game 23-20 Friday, April 19.

In the first game, Davenport poured in six runs in the top of the second inning to take a big lead. A 2-run inside-the-park homer from Kaylynne Clouse was part of a 4-run Reardan half of the inning to cut into the lead, but then Davenport scored five runs with two outs in the top of the fourth to take an 11-4 lead.

Reardan's bats awoke in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring five runs to cut Davenport's lead to 11-9.

But Davenport had another 6-run inning in it, this time in the top of the sixth inning. Reardan wasn't done, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 17-16 Davenport.

After one run in the top of the seventh, Davenport flirted with walk off disaster, but Reardan left the bases loaded to give the Gorillas the win.

Davenport started the second game with more offense, plating four runs in the first inning, but it was Reardan that found 23 of the 43 total runs to earn a split on the day.

Both teams are in action this Saturday, April 27, with Davenport hosting Kettle Falls and Reardan getting a visit from Colfax.
