Monday, Jan. 6: A caller reported the theft of a battery and iron from property on Tramm Road about a quarter mile north of SR 2.

Dispatchers were advised of the theft of a battery charger and a table saw from a residence in the Lakeview Terrace mobile home park.

A caller reported drivers of several vehicles traveling a gravel road between Seventh and Eighth streets south of Jefferson in Davenport were running stop signs and going too fast.

A Davenport woman reported the theft of a motorcycle from a residence in the 1100 block of Jefferson Street.

An individual was observed shooting at signs from the passenger side of a pickup truck on SR 2 between Creston and Wilbur.

Tuesday, Jan. 7: An Edwall man reported possible fraudulent activity involving a pellet stove he posted on Craigslist for $500. One response was from a man who planned to send more than that amount and have the seller pay those who came to move the stove.

In Moses Lake, deputies recovered two vehicles stolen from a Sprague resident.

Residents in Lincoln reported suspicious activity involving a man who came to their home and offered to lower a satellite television bill by changing the name on an account.

The front door of a residence in the 100 block of SW 1st Street in Creston was broken during an apparent burglary.

A Harrington woman reported $90 worth of fraudulent transactions involving her bank card.

After a Sprague caller said he heard three gunshot-like sounds and saw a muzzle flash, responding deputies discovered the source was a malfunctioning transformer at 1st and F streets.

Two occupants escaped injury when their vehicle slid off Old Coulee Highway south of Douglas Road.

Reardan Police responded to a two-vehicle collision at SR 2 (Broadway) and Lake streets.

Wednesday, Jan. 8: A major power outage hit Odessa, affecting the local schools and hospital as well as several businesses and residences. It occurred after a power pole in the 200 block of West Railroad Avenue was knocked over.

Deputies dealt with two drivers arguing alongside SR 2 near Bennett Road after one apparently pulled out and caused the other to go off the roadway.

A possible natural gas leak was reported in the 700 block of Maxwell Street in Davenport.

Wilbur Police responded to a report that a woman had been the target of threats.

Thursday, Jan. 9: An Almira woman asked for assistance with a 16-year-old boy who refused to go to school.

A collision at Morgan and Sixth streets in Davenport blocked traffic in the Family Foods parking area.

A Davenport man reported three fraudulent charges totaling $212 were made on a bank card used by someone at two stores and a gas station in Virginia.

Wilbur firefighters responded to the 100 block of NW Lincoln to assist with a furnace issue.

Friday, Jan. 10: Davenport ambulance personnel transported a 59-year-old man with breathing difficulties from the 200 block of Ninth Street to Lincoln Hospital.

Deputies caught up with a vehicle that was observed traveling at high speeds and swerving in and out of traffic on SR 2 between Reardan and Davenport.

Saturday, Jan. 11: High winds forced the closure of the Keller ferry for the better part of a day.

A broken pipe at Crop Production Services in Davenport spewed out water until workers arrived to shut off the flow.

A Davenport man reported a vehicle drove through his lawn adjacent to Sunset Highway. A responding deputy arrested a man on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Deputies responded to a Grand Coulee residence after a 911 caller described an assault involving a woman.

Sunday, Jan. 12: A man who appeared out-of-place in a Sprague area driveway had become lost while trying to find Fishtrap Lake, where friends from Fairchild Air Force Base were waiting for him to bring replacement keys for those they had lost.

A collision involving a vehicle and deer was reported on SR 25 about 13 miles north of Davenport.

Criminal Sentencings

Nehemiah Josiah Covey, 42, of Davenport, pleaded guilty Jan. 7 to second-degree burglary (amended through plea negotiations from first-degree burglary, two counts of theft of a firearm, second-degree malicious mischief and second-degree theft). He must complete 30 days electronic home monitoring, pay $628 restitution to the owner of property on Partridge Lane in the Hawk Creek area that was burglarized last July, along with $800 court costs and yet-to-be-determined attorney fees. He was arrested in October after deputies responded to a domestic violence call and discovered his involvement with the summer burglary.

Richard Lee Chornuk, 45, of Ephrata, pleaded guilty Jan. 7 to felony driving while under the influence in June of last year. He must complete 60 months in prison, pay a $2,000 fine and $800 court costs. Cases filed against him in District Court will be withdrawn in exchange for his plea.

Michael Christopher Tucker, 24, of Spokane, pleaded guilty Jan. 7 to reckless driving (a charge of hit and run injury accident was withdrawn in exchange for his plea). He must serve five days in jail or on electronic home monitoring and pay $700 court costs. His driver's license also was suspended for 30 days. The charge involved a rear-end collision in Sprague last July.

New Criminal Cases

Luke Anthony Ives, 30, of Wilbur, is charged with first-degree assault (domestic violence) in connection with a Jan. 1 incident in Wilbur during which a woman allegedly was threatened with a knife, was hit and her hair pulled. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor. A no-contact order against Ives is in place.

Keith Joseph Claassen, 40, of Spokane, is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle in connection with a Jan. 4 traffic stop on Devils Gap Road. A deputy discovered that the vehicle Claassen was driving was owned by his mother and listed as stolen.

Dylan Eugene Timpani and Matthew Glen Low, both 25 and incarcerated in the Grant County Jail, are charged in connection with the taking of three vehicles and tools from a shop on SR 23 about a half mile west of Schirr Road near Sprague during December. Timpani is charged with two counts of second-degree burglary, three counts of theft of a motor vehicle and one count of first-degree theft. Low is charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and first-degree possession of stolen property.

Juvenile Offender Disposition

At the prosecuting attorney's request, a charge of fourth-degree assault with sexual motivation against a now 18-year-old Davenport boy was dismissed and will be filed in District Court. The charge involved alleged inappropriate touching of a boy living at a Davenport residence last August and September and prompted the relocation of foreign exchange students being hosted there.
