Picnics seem to be the highlight of this week in the history. The Baptists planned to hold their annual picnic at the Portuguese Joe ranch; the Lutherans went to Pacific Lake and the Big Bend Pioneers went to the civic park in Wilbur.
Katie Schmauder wed Harold Gies at the home of the groom’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gies.

Thirty- two students graduated from Odessa High School. Sharyn Brown was the valedictorian and Gene Claassen was the salutatorian.
Receiving the year chain and guard of the Honor Society were Barbara Bannister, Sharyn Brown, Gene Claassen, David Iverson, Myrna Kramer and Myrna Lyons.
Ken Kirstein received the Arion award given by the high school music department.
Student body awards included: Dave Iverson, music; Dan Haugen, mathematics; Dave Iverson, honor boy; Myrna Kramer, honor girl; Myrna Kramer, leadership; Doris Tschritter, citizenship girl; Jim Suckland, citizenship boy; Sharyn Brown, science.
Mrs. Arthur Hoefel announces the engagement of her daughter, Kathleen, to Alex Mischel Harper, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex B. Harper of Garfield Wash.

Twenty-three students graduated from Odessa High School, with a surprising number deciding to enter military service. Class salutatorian, David Nixon, and Wendy Jantz, Heather Gilbert, Mark Burroughs, Scott Thomas and Jody Houck joined the Navy. Tony Quilici joined the Army.
Valedictorian Rosanna Walter and Nixon were given the Washington State Honors Award and both students graduated with high honors.
It was reported that over the years, up until that time, the Odessa Trading Company awarded a total of $79,000 in scholarships to Odessa’s graduating seniors. Eighty-five percent of the students the Odessa Trading Company awarded money to, completed their college goals.
A summer recreation program, mostly funded by a grant, included activities such as golf, tennis, basketball, volleyball, computer camp, arts and crafts, new games, open gym, story hour and little girls’ cheer camp. There was to be a day at the water slides, a campout at Sun Lakes, “leapin’ lizards animal day,” a high school dance, a younger kids campout in the town park, a scavenger/treasure hunt, water fun day, and a final party/barbecue.. There was a trip to Spokane for senior citizens and adult volleyball and aerobics.

Thirty-three students graduated from Odessa High School. Valedictorian Kacy Wilson, was the class speaker and salutatorian, Mahki Voise, gave the class greeting.
Graduating with high honors were Kaci Wilson, Mahki Voise, Jill Connolly, Erik Walter and Josh Steward.
The class was to leave on June 9, for their annual senior trip to Edmonton, Alberta.
