Wehr/Larson earn awards at science & engineering fair

Two students from the Odessa High School Science Department/Advanced STEM Research Laboratory presented their projects March 28 at the 58th annual Washington State Science and Engineering Fair held in Bremerton, earning awards for their independent research.

Thorsen Wehr, competing in the Computer Science category, presented a project designated "The Design and Analysis of a Quaternary Data Storage System."

He was awarded the first-place trophy in computer sciences (certificate and ribbon), the Intel Excellence in Computer Science Award (certificate and cash prize) and the Universal Quality Control Award (certificate and resources).

Elizabeth Larson, competing in the category Medicine and Health, presented a project entitled, "The Effect of Sunglasses on Ocular Exposure to Ultraviolet Radiation."

She was awarded third place in Medicine and Health (certificate and ribbon).

These students gave polished presentations, and their projects revealed excellent use of the scientific method. The Advanced STEM Research team now prepares for the 2015 OHS-ASR STEMposium to be held in Odessa for the members of the community on May 18.
