Origins of Landmark Apts.
The Harrington Landmark Apartments were built in the fall of 1974 with November 15 as their date for occupancy. The Leitze Construction Company built the complex, which was designed by Joel Molander. The Harrington Lions Club borrowed the money from the Farmer’s Home Association when an FHA survey had pointed out the need for senior citizen housing. The occupants would have no maintenance worries. The building covers 5,800 square feet which includes four one-bedroom and four two-bedroom apartments. Each apartment had an enclosed yard extending 17 feet. Inside, a large hallway was designed as a gathering and meeting place. The Landmark Apartments have stood empty for nearly three years.
