Turkey Carnival crowd down but raffle winners happy

The 75th annual Turkey Carnival put on by the Odessa Lions Club drew a smaller than normal crowd last Saturday, as quite a large number of townspeople opted to attend the quarterfinal football game in Spokane between Odessa-Harrington and Almira/Coulee-Hartline (won by the Titans, see article on sports page). The Odessa Community Center opened at 2 p.m. to begin serving hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos, soft drinks, water and pie by the slice. The coffee was free.

The club had purchased 120 turkeys for the bingo games which began at 3 p.m. Also running concurrently until about 6 p.m. were children's carnival games run by members of the Odessa chapter of FFA.

The raffle for 47 different donated items began once all 120 turkeys had been won at the bingo tables. The grand prize of a $500 credit at any Odessa business was donated by the Lions Club and was won by new resident Christine Summers.

The shop vac donated by Ramm Hardware was won by Wade Walter. Costlow Auto Services donated a $50 gift certificate to NAPA Auto Parts that went to Penny Haeviene. Sherie Heimbigner won the car wash kit donated by the NAPA store. A box of meat from the Lifestock Producers Cooperative Association was won by Carol Geist.

Rich Ervin received a $25 gift certificate to Ramm Hardware that was donated by North Basin Seed. Grannie BarBar's basket of sweet treats went to Drew Fink. Terrie Crosby won the $100 gift certificate to Ramm Hardware donated by Avista. Art Deppner won the Sonicare toothbrush donated by Dr. Mike Condon. The large toy tractor donated by the Odessa Trading Co. went to Christine Summers, just one of the many repeat winners.

A car jumper pack donated by Seth and Sandy Smith went to Sherie Heimbigner. Makayla Curtis won $50 in cash from LL Customs. Carpenter, McGuire & DeWulf donated a Coleman Roadtrip Grill won by Tyler Smith. Leffel, Otis & Warwick donated a $100 gift certicate to NAPA Auto Parts won by J. Julius. Grant Wagner won a $100 gift certificate to Odessa Drug donated by the Odessa Union/AgVentures NW. A gift basket donated by Rocky Coulee Brewing Co. was won by Jackie Greenwalt.

Seed-Rite donated a $25 gift certificate to the Odessa Drive-In won by Walt Ellis. Andy Schafer won a gift basket donated by Washington Federal Bank. Kim Ramm was the recipient of $50 in cash courtesy of Wheatland Bank. Voise Sausage by Summers donated a variety basket of sausage won by Kay Alt. The Fitness Center donated two separate prizes of a month's worth of free membership each won by Alvin Hille and Mike Doyle.

The custom quilt donated by Experience Quilts was won by Dr. Stacie Nichols. Carol Bell won a $25 gift certificate to Crab Creek Coffee Haus donated by that establishment. Ott Insurance donated two nearly pure silver coins won by Sheryl Roberts. Barb Schlimmer won a $100 gift certificate to Odessa Drug donated by same. The Odessa Record donated a year's subscription to the newspaper won by Mike Nichols, Jr. Two Melgren-owned businesses, Any Occasion Banquet Hall and Sky High Mini-Storage, each donated a $30 gift certificate to Odessa Drug, won by Daryl Hovermale and Dale Anderson. The Hair Haus donated a basket full of hair products won by Stan Reider.

Bob Zimbelman won a gift certificate for two free pizzas at Rolling Thunder Pizza doated by Seed-Rite. The Odessa Golf Course donated 18 holes of golf for two and cart rental won by Carol Geist. Odessa Foods donated a $100 gift certificate to their store, won by Delores Gore. Jay Birge won a backpack sprayer donated by the Grange Supply Co. of Odessa. Chiefs Bar & Grill donated dinner for two at their establishment, won by Matt Ellis. Movies passes to Fairchild Cinemas in Moses Lake were donated by Schmidt Insurance and won by Mason Lewis.

Charlie Comnick won three month's worth of basic internet service from Odessa Office Equipment. Helping Hands Catering donated a cheesecake won by Sharon Parr. Carol Golden won an oil change and safety check donated by Costlow Auto Services. Vivianne Poe won a $25 gift certificate to the Crab Creek Coffee Haus donated by Seed-Rite. Ott Insurance donated another two collectible silver coins won by Jessica Kagele.

Odessa Office Equipment donated another three months' worth of basic internet service, this time won by Kelly Korpinen. Walter Implement donated a large rechargeable work light won by Jacob Reeve and a small rechargeable work light won by Terrie Crosby. Seed-Rite donated a $25 gift certificate to Chiefs Bar & Grill won by Lise Ott. JR Newhouse donated two $50 gift certificates to Ramm Hardware won by Ellis Lewis and Shane Gilthvedt. Bill Reinbold won a $25 gift certificate to the Odessa Golf Course donated by Seed-Rite.
