Girl Scouts plan summer trip to Washington, D.C.

Five girl scouts from Odessa, Hannah Sheldon, Alyssa Iverson, Chloe Winkler, Jocelyn Zigan and Mackenzie Lutz, are planning a trip to Washington, D.C. in the summer of 2017. They will be accompanied by Michele Dowlen of Wilbur and Lyndsay Reyes and Sherri Frederick, both of Odessa.

The girls and their leaders have been busy for several months already raising money for the trip with cheesecake sales, community dinners, bake sales and car washes.

The trip will be educational and is meant to broaden the girls’ knowledge of the nation’s history and its government. Among the sites they plan to visit are the U.S. Capitol, the Supreme Court, Arlington National Cemetery, several of the Smithsonian Museums, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the Holocaust Museum, Ford Theatre, the Newseum, the Spy Museum, the Pentagon and Mount Vernon.
