The Odessa Record -

Meet your neighbor

Karen Peterson is one busy gal out and about

As I was interviewing Karen Peterson for this column, I realized that most of you probably already know her and her family. But then there are newbies like myself who do not.

Karen was born in Seattle and grew up in Edmonds. She met and married Ron Peterson, and they were married 52 years.

They had two children, Nicki Peterson of Lake Havasu, Ariz., and Bryce Peterson, our Odessa policeman. Ron was in the coast guard, and at one time they were stationed at the Makapuu lighthouse station in Hawaii.

They lived in Ferndale for years and in 1992 they bought the Odessa motel now known as La Collage Inn. They owned and operated it until 1999, then sold it and moved to Colville for about five years. For several years they traveled to Lake Havasu for the winters. After Ron’s passing Karen bought a house in Odessa and still travels to Lake Havasu.

In her earlier years, she worked at Horizon Mutual Savings in Bellingham as a teller, in customer loans and as a receptionist.

Karen is very handy with tools. She loves to remodel and is very good at it. She also is an artist and used to belong to the Odessa Palettes art group. She loves to go for walks with her dog Jack. So, if you see her out and about, stop and say hi. Until next time...

Enjoy life!
