Fred Ramm

Fred Ramm died June 13, 2019 at Irene Carnes and Rick Erdman's home. Baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at Christ Lutheran Church in Odessa.

While a life-long resident of Odessa and growing up, he was in Boy Scouts, Little League Baseball, Junior Police, Trapshooting Special Olympics, winning many gold metals. His adult interests were fishing, hunting, snow-mobiling, car races, the interstate fair, rodeos, the Spokane Indians baseball games and just spending time with family and friends. His sense of humor brightened our lives.

At age 14, he started his working career by mowing the lawn for Christ Lutheran Church. In 1970, after his sister Irene helped him get his driver's license, he worked at Al Fink Farms. In 1974, he also began delivering the Columbia Basin Herald newspaper in Odessa and worked at C.A. Carnes Excavating Rock Crushers. In 1977, Fred started his employment with the Town of Odessa. During this time he was also helping his father on Ed Heimbigner's farm, raising animals, fowl and a large garden each year until 1986. Fred stopped all work in 1986 when an accident injured his arm and he had to retire.

In 1989 Fred met Cheryl Fox, and in 1990 they had a son Albert Fox Ramm. Fred became a father to Albert and also to Cheryl's children Steven, Lyn and Andria McAdams. He was very dedicated to his family because there were many medical issues with Cheryl, Albert and Steven. Albert died June 18, 2011, and Fred, along with Chuck and Irene continued helping Andria McAdams and her daughter Joylyn Jude McAdams. During this time, Fred often helped others in Odessa who needed him.

In September of 2018, Fred was put in St. Peters hospital diagnosed with a lung illness. It was not until Oct. 2019 when at Grays Harbor Community Hospital that he was told he had lung cancer. On October 11, his birthday, he moved to the home of Irene Carnes and Rick Erdman in Neilton, Wash., where he passed away on June 13, 2019.

He is survived by his sister Irene Carnes (and Rick Erdman), Harvey Delzer, Andria and daughter Joylyn McAdams, Steven McAdams and Lyn (Joe) McAdams Smith.

Fred was preceded in death by his son Albert Ramm, Cheryl Fox, his parents Albert and Frances Ramm, brothers Ronald Ramm and Jack Ramm, brother-in-law Chuck Carnes and friend Dale Jacobson who died February 3, 2019. A memorial service is not planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Lutheran Church and notes sent to Rick Erdman and Irene Carnes, P.O. Box 705, Amanda Park WA 98526.
