Christmas Fest fun for all

As I walked into the community center on Wednesday, December 4, you could feel the Christmas spirit at the door. The room was filled with vendors from near and far. If you were looking to find that perfect Christmas gift or special treat, it was probably there.

DJ "Sparkly Joyce" was on the mixer playing all of my favorite Christmas tunes with a grin from ear to ear. Her helper, Pastor Jon, was flying higher and faster than Rudolph himself, flitting all around the stage, trying to make sure everything was just right for all of the performers. Unfortunately a few of the scheduled performers ended up with a touch of a bug, so they were unable to perform. The Hayashi family, PC Jantz Elementary students, Alicia Mielke playing flute and Dyanne Deering all helped to bring musical joy to the event.

As you walked around, the vendors were many. If you wanted something to make your house smell of Christmas, it was there; if you needed a beautiful painted mason jar for a candle, it was there. Candles were there of every shape and size. If you needed some cookies for Santa, a couple of different booths could fill the plate. How about a special pen to write out your Christmas cards? You guessed it. It was there. There were all kinds of gift raffles and drawings. The giveaways were many, and they brought joy to all who received them.

The very best part of the Christmas Fest, in my eyes was the arrival of SANTA!! Outside the community center, we waited with little Orin Smith-Covey for Santa to arrive in the firetruck. The excitement in his eyes as he saw Santa coming was enough to light up the entire town of Odessa. As he sat on my daughter's shoulders, he waved and screamed, "Santa, I'm here. Santa, it's me!" Santa pulled up and got out of the firetruck to greet a beyond excited little boy. Orin ran up and hugged him and said "Santa, Santa, it's me. Do you remember me?" Santa replied, "Of course I do," as he headed in to greet the rest of his fans inside. To me, by far, that was the BEST part of the day.
